The Lucky Dash: A DHC-8 Wishlist

Until recently the DHC-8-100/200/300 was one of the most under-represented regional aircraft in 400 scale that had an existing mould. Indeed, the 300 variant didn’t actually have a mould at all and we were entirely dependent on Gemini Jets and JC Wings who had released only 16 models in 17 years. Fortunately, that has now changed with 3D Design Deck getting their own DHC-8 family up to the highest level.

3D Design Deck's new DHC-8s are impressive
3D Design Deck have already released a good number of DHC-8s and with their ability to make smaller production runs than a diecast manufacturer the range of airline liveries has been varied and impressive. That gives me a lot more confidence that this wishlist won’t be as poorly realised as many I have published over the years.

With that in mind here are a selection of excellent options for the first 3 variants of the DHC-8 I’d love to see in the scale.
Note I’ve left off British Airways schemes for licensing reasons and also Wideroe as it appears the latest 3DDD hints include that airline.

Summary

There’s plenty of scope for more DHC-8s. For me my top 5 are:

  • Eastern Metro Express DHC-8-100
  • Brymon DHC-8-100
  • Jersey European DHC-8-300
  • Air Nelson / Air NZ Link Q300
  • Ansett New Zealand DHC-8-100 Shooting Stars
