Every now and then some weird 400 scale models appear advertising something not airline related. In 2021 there was the Bruce Lee inspired ‘Be water, my friend’ 747-400 using the JC Wings mould and now the Hong Kong store Tiny has followed that up with another 747-400 on the JC Wings mould in the colours of the bumbling British character Mr Bean, played by Rowan Atkinson.
Mr Bean came to prominence as a British sitcom that ran for 15 episodes from 1990, following the adventures of the eponymous title character going about his daily business and managing various situations the best he could. Rowan Atkinson, of Blackadder fame, had developed the character earlier when he was at university.
Since then there have been two feature films (in 1997 and 2007) and a 52 episode animated version running from 2002-mid-2004. It is the latter that forms the basis for the design of this unusual model. I have to say the design looks rather good.
Tiny appear to be a Hong Kong model and memorabilia focused store and have quite a lot of licensed Mr Bean related material as you can see here. This 747-400 is available for sale at their store for HKD 350.
The model can also be found at various taobao stores as well for RMB315. It certainly is an unusual subject for a 400 scale model but I like how the design has Bean being chased by his teddy in an aeroplane so at least making the model vaguely aviation related!
