Back to Schabak!

A few of you may know me from the scale600.com days back when myself, Julian and a few others attempted to pull together the complete production list of Schabak models, assisted by the Wings900 database. Since 2010 I’ve moved on to 400 scale mainly, but still own all my Schabaks and have been meaning to build on the 1:600 area of Yesterday’s Airlines.

For the 600 scale area of the site go here:

A few days ago I was prompted by a fellow collector to get back to this and so I have begun the laborious task of updating the new MADb database with the Schabak records from the original Excel lists that were created by myself up to 2012.

This will be aided by new photographs of my entire collection. This will then hopefully lead towards a new masterlist for Schabak. Below is an example of the new type of photo you can expect, which will hopefully cover about 1,700 of the 2,300 individual original Schabak model releases.

MADb have been very helpful and have added in new custom fields for Schabaks, which will allow me to specify mould type, window colour and wheel type where necessary to allow differentiation of versions.

Below is a screenshot from the database of some records I have already updated with new photos and the extra metadata tags for mould, wheel type and window colour:

It’s a big job, but I’m hoping that over the next few months all the Schabak information can be restored and updated – and I plan on expanding the 600 scale section of Yesterday’s Airlines to partner with the database updates. In the below image you can see 1 of 5 drawers of smaller Schabaks from my collection. In addition to these there is a massive chest and 2 plastic totes of models as well so you can understand the scale of the task ahead.

Anyway hopefully this will prove 600 scale isn’t completely dead and provide a fitting tribute to Schabak. Stay tuned for updates as I go through aircraft type by aircraft type.
